A gender scan, also known as a sexing scan, can be performed between 16 weeks and 22 weeks of pregnancy.
- Tell you the gender of your baby
- Have a sneak peek of your baby in 4D
- Listen to baby’s heartbeat
- Basic well-being scan to check baby’s health and development
- Well-being report will be emailed to you
- We cater for those who are having a gender reveal and wish to keep the gender of the baby a secret in the scan room
- Your scan movie clips and all digital images will be sent to you electronically
- Includes 2 black and white thermal paper prints
- Extra colour photo prints available
Please note that the basic well-being scan, as part of this service, to check baby’s health & development does not include growth measurements or an estimate of baby’s weight. Growth measurements can be added as an optional extra to your scan for £20.
16 weeks is the earliest that the gender can reliably be seen on a gender ultrasound scan and gives expectant parents the opportunity to find out the gender 4 weeks earlier than they normally would at the 20 week NHS scan.
We know how exciting finding out the gender of your baby is and we understand that you would want to share that experience with family and friends so we have a large scan room with plenty of seating and multiple large screens as well as a projector so everyone including the mum to be has a great view of the scan.
It’s no problem if you want to keep the gender a secret, we will print a picture of the boy or girl parts, write on the picture whether it’s a girl or boy, and we will put that in an envelope for you to take home.
If you are interested in knowing the gender earlier than 16 weeks we do offer the SneakPeek Gender Blood Test which can identify the gender of your baby as early as 7 weeks. The SneakPeek Test is a pregnancy blood test and not a pregnancy ultrasound scan. You can find out more at SneakPeek Gender Blood Test.
We also have a range of gender reveal accessories to choose from balloons, cannons, footballs, scratch cards and gender reveal party decorations.
During your gender scan, also known as a sexing scan, the sonographer will show you your baby, pointing out the heart, head, legs and arms. You will be able to listen to your baby’s heartbeat and for an extra fee you can choose to have the the heartbeat recorded and put into a heartbeat bear for you take home. The sonographer will check the well being of your baby and point out the vital organs and show you where your baby is lying within the womb. The sonographer will show you your baby’s gender, they will point out the boy or girl bits. We will also have a quick look at what you baby looks like in 4D at this stage.
After your gender scan the sonographer will choose the two best pictures and print them on black and white thermal paper for you to take home.
If you want extra pictures we can print colour photo prints for an extra fee, you can look through your gender scan images and choose extra pictures you would like us to print. Later that same day we will email to you all your scan pictures, video clips and report.
At Babyvue we perform gender scans any time from 16 weeks to 22 weeks. 16 week is the earliest that the gender can reliably be seen on ultrasound scans. 16 week is also a good time to have a scan as it falls right in between the 12 week and 20 week NHS scans. It is nice to have a scan to have a bit of reassurance that all is going well while you are in between NHS scans and before you can feel the baby moving.
YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Gender Scan FAQs
Is this an early gender scan?
Yes, we offer an early gender scans from 16 weeks. This private gender scan (sexing scan) is 4 weeks earlier than your first NHS scan at 20 weeks.
We do offer SneakPeek Clinical Gender DNA test, which is a pregnancy blood test, at 7 weeks which can identify the gender of your baby. You can find out more at SneakPeek Gender Test.
How can you tell a baby’s gender on ultrasound?
We look in between the baby’s legs to see if they have boy bits or girl bits.
Is the gender 100% accurate on ultrasound?
No the gender is never 100% accurate on ultrasound. At Babyvue we have a 99.9% accuracy.
What happens if you can’t see my baby’s gender?
We would try to encourage the baby to move by getting the mother to roll or by going for a walk, drinking cold water or eating something sweet. Usually these techniques work but on the very rare occasion that we still can not see a gender we would book you in to come back another day for a free rescan. It is very rare that we have to book someone for a rescan for the gender it would only happen about twice in an entire year.
I don’t want to know the gender can I still have a gender scan?
Yes, we will keep the gender a secret if you don’t want to know or if you want to find out later.
Are gender scans and sexing scans the same thing?
Yes, a sexing scan is the same as our gender scan service.
If I buy the gender reveal balloon do you blow it up?
Yes if you buy a gender reveal balloon we put the correct colour confetti in it and we will blow it up with helium for you.
How long can I keep the gender reveal balloon before I pop it?
You should pop the gender reveal balloon on the same day we blow it up for you as it will start to go down and will no longer float by the next day.
Do you have gender reveal accessories?
Yes we sell gender reveal balloons, cannons, footballs and scratch cards.
Do I need a full bladder for a gender scan?
Yes, a full bladder can help but if it is so full you are uncomfortable it is probably too full and you should go to the toilet and empty it.
Do you have toilet facilities?
Yes we do.
How many people can I bring to my scan?
We would ask that you don’t bring more than 5 people with you and if you have a large group you may be asked to wait outside until the scan as our waiting room is small.
