At a growth and presentation scan the Sonographer takes measurements of your baby and estimates your baby’s weight. You can get this scan between 24 weeks and 40 weeks of your pregnancy.
- Listen to baby’s heart beat
- Measure your baby’s head, abdomen and femur to assess their growth
- Give you an estimate of your baby’s weight
- Doppler of umbilical artery
- Measure deepest pool of amniotic fluid
- Basic well-being scan to check baby’s development
- Show you the position of your baby and the placenta (please note that we will not check if the placenta is high or low only whether it is on the front or back wall of the uterus).
- Well-being report will be emailed to you
- All digital images will be sent to you electronically

Growth & Presentation Scan
The main purpose of a growth and presentation scan is to measure the baby and estimate the baby’s weight.
During a growth and presentation scan the sonographer will measure the baby’s head, abdomen and femur. The machine will use these measurements to estimate the baby’s weight. We will also measure the fluid around baby and the blood flow within the umbilical cord and tell you the position of your baby. This scan also includes a basic well being check which involves scanning through the baby from the top of the head to the feet to check basic anatomy. We will also try to get a nice picture of baby however this is not always possible later in pregnancy.
We will email you all your scan images and a detailed report.
We will also print one image for you to take with you.
You can have this scan anytime from 24-40 weeks however we recommend having this scan in the third trimester. We would also recommend you don’t have growth scan less than 2 weeks apart.
